Military Lunch Bunch

Lady's Island Elementary School

Lady’s Island Elementary students who have parents deployed in the military have a special program to help them deal with the stress of having a parent overseas – the Military Lunch Bunch.  Once a week, Pre-K through fourth-graders grouped by grade level meet with Guidance Counselor Kelli Harper and talk and work on activities together.  Conversations center on family life and the feelings that students have about separation.  Activities include learning about the various countries where their parents are stationed. Friendships are forged in the “bunch,” and children often stay with the group even after their parents have returned stateside.  Special programs are also held with soon-to-be deployed parents and after parents return home.  Pictured in the photo with Lady’s Island Elementary students is U.S. Marine Ryan McCaskill, who is scheduled to be deployed.
