Khalil Lewis, HHIHS

It wasn’t quite a history-making performance, but it was close.  Hilton Head Island High School running back Khalil Lewis rushed for 307 yards and scored seven touchdowns in the Seahawk’s 47-6 win over Hardeeville High.  Khalil’s feat was even more impressive considering that he played very little in the fourth quarter.  His seven touchdowns were two short of the state record set in 1958 by Mayo High’s Frank Byrd.  “I’ve said it a number of times,” said Coach B.J. Payne.  “He’s the best back I’ve coached.”  Although Khalil hopes to attend college on a football scholarship, he says that his focus now is totally on the Seahawks’ season.
