Helen Goodman, Okatie Elementary School

Science lab teacher Helen Goodman has been on a roll lately when it comes to earning grants that help her students.  She’s earned three in the past two months.  A $1,600 Lowcountry Resource Conservation and Development Youth Environmental Education Grant will help fund “family science nights” where parents and their children go on science field trips together.  The other two grants – $800 from Palmetto Bright Ideas and $500 grant from the Foundation for Education Excellence – will be used to purchase non-fiction books for the school’s collection.  “Helen is just wonderful,” says Okatie Elementary Principal Jamie Pinckney.  “She lives and breathes science, and she’s passionate about showing students how to connect with their environment.”
