Pritchardville Elementary earns 2021 recognition as Blue Ribbon Lighthouse School

BEAUFORT – Pritchardville Elementary School has been named a 2021 Blue Ribbon Lighthouse School.

Based on the Blue Ribbon Schools of Excellence (BRSE) national assessment process, Pritchardville Elementary met the criteria for nine categories:

  • Student Focus and Support

  • School Organization and Culture

  • Challenging Standard and Curriculum

  • Active Teaching and Learning

  • Technology and Integration

  • Professional Community

  • Leadership and Education Vitality

  • School, Family, and Community Partnerships

  • Indicators of Success

In addition to the comprehensive review process for the nine strategic areas, stakeholder surveys, interviews, and school visits were also completed. This evaluation process typically takes a year or more, but because the school had all of their components in place, to include evidence and artifacts to validate all nine categories, Pritchardville Elementary earned this recognition on the first try which is a rare occurrence given the rigorous review process.

“This is a huge honor, not only for Pritchardville Elementary but for our entire school district, especially during a pandemic,” said Superintendent Frank Rodriguez who will celebrate with the school’s students and staff.  “It recognizes on a national level the strong focus on data driven initiatives at Pritchardville and is a testament to our dedicated students, parents, school leaders, and of course our exceptional teachers.”

Pritchardville Elementary Principal Brenda Blue explained how going through the Blue Ribbon Schools of Excellence’s rigorous evaluation process aligns with her school’s commitment to continuous improvement to provide a quality gifted education for every student.  “The designation as a Blue Ribbon Lighthouse School is a validation of the exemplary practices shown on a daily basis in our building and the culture of success that we have created for our students,” said Blue.  “It is especially great this year to receive this recognition because we have never lost sight of our mission and our focus—our students.”

BRSE reviewer Nancy Guzman said Pritchardville Elementary is a Blue Ribbon School of Excellence model for others to emulate. “They are truly a data-driven school that creates their own surveys to periodically check on the school climate,” said Guzman. “I am ecstatic for Pritchardville!”

This award will be presented to Pritchardville Elementary during the Blue Ribbon Schools Conference in Orlando, Florida at Disney's Yacht and Beach Club Convention Center at the Awards Luncheon on Friday, December 3.

Designation as a Blue Ribbon Lighthouse School lasts for five years, at which time Pritchardville Elementary will be eligible for renewal.  According to Blue Ribbon Schools of Excellence CEO Judith Warden Fields, Ed.D., “Blue Ribbon Lighthouse Schools commit to sharing expertise and exemplary practices with other schools on a local, regional, and national level as well as providing mentoring and networking to schools seeking guidance and assistance in school improvement initiatives.”
