SCETV to feature Beaufort High theater
group on ‘Carolina Classrooms’ show
BEAUFORT – Beaufort High School Theater’s “See Something, Say Something” anti-bullying performance will be featured on South Carolina ETV’s “Carolina Classrooms” show, which begins airing today.
The program will focus on bullying and suicide prevention and how social issues affect student health and the learning process. Guests appearing on the show will be LaRaine Fess, director of Beaufort High’s theater department; Alex Karydi, director of the South Carolina Youth Suicide Prevention Initiative; and Jan Urbanski, director of Safe and Human Schools for the Institute on Family and Neighborhood Life at Clemson University.
Beaufort High Theater’s production, “When You See Something, Say Something,” encourages bystanders who witness bullying of students to speak up and alert a teacher, school administrator or parent.
“After a bullying incident that my son experienced, I wanted to know if my students had experienced similar situations,” said Fess. “I was surprised to find out how many students had experienced bullying, so we decided to do something to make a difference.”
“Carolina Classrooms” is SCETV’s monthly educational series for teachers, parents and citizens interested in the education of children. Each program focuses on key educational topics and initiatives in South Carolina.
Beginning Wednesday, September 28, at 7 p.m., the Bullying and Suicide Prevention episode of “Carolina Classrooms” will air on SCETV’s website at http://scetv.org/television/programs/carolina-classrooms.
In addition, the show will be archived and can be watched any time at the same link.
